Artist: Slayer
Venue: Rebel Nightclub
City: Toronto
Date: September 13
Photographer: Dale Benvenuto

Slayer boasts some of the most iconic faces in the metal scene and I feel Dale captured the epic-ness that is Kerry King. A strong black and white contrast with the lights accenting his figure and pointing outward – a perfect capture. Well done, Dale!

Artist: Billy Idol
Venue: Pemberton Music Festival
City: Pemberton, BC
Date: July 17
Photographer: Steven Shepherd

Billy Idol is such an icon of the 80s and I think Steven captured his essence perfectly here. It’s clean, it’s simple but it still says a lot about the man for those who know anything about him. Great capture, Steven!

Artist: Blink 182
Venue: Amnesia Rockfest
City: Montebello, QC
Date: June 27
Photographer: Scott Penner

Blink 182 has been a huge part of my adolescent years and having seen Travis Barker play in Blink and the Transplants, I feel this shot captures his energy. The composition is unique with the negative space on the right drawing more attention to his light shirt, and therefore him. Nice shot, Scott!

Artist: Florence And The Machine
Venue: Molson Amphitheatre
City: Toronto
Date: June 10
Photographer: Janine Van Oostrom

Based on the pictures I’ve chosen so far, I’m sure you can tell I’m a sucker for portraits. Janine captured Florence Welch extremely well here – if anyone has ever heard music, be it live or on the radio, you’re fully capable of the voice she can project and I can just hear her singing here. Also, the tones in the processing really give up that ethereal feel which I feel embodies her. Nailed it, Janine!

Artist: Carly Rae Jepsen
Venue: St. Andrew’s Hall
City: Detroit
Date: March 14
Photographer: Taylor Ohryn

Carly Rae Jepsen is a guilty pleasure of mine and I think this shot by Taylor is pretty neat. Having Carly in the middle, white shirt contrasting all the cool lights in the back, hand out reached inviting you into the image is hella rad. Props, Taylor!
