Comfort isn’t a bad thing

By: Laura Stanley –

With a rather bleak band name like The Black Fever, I was expecting to hear music that had a far rougher tone than it actually does. Revisionist, the latest album from this Toronto trio, is a solid collection of indie rock tracks – nothing flashy but still easy to find reasons why the band can be appealing.

With the solid bass line in, “Break My Heart” and easy to remember chorus in “Slipping Away,” both of these songs are yes, typical indie songs but high-energy none the less. “Alchemist” and “Until The End” are some of the more melodious songs from Revisionist. A different, compared to the rest of the album, almost lighter sounding rock sound in the latter track proves to be welcoming.

The cleverly entitled, Cyndi Lauper inspired, “Girls…Just Want To Have Funds” is the clear album highlight. Poppy and wonderfully upbeat, The Black Fever show that they are able to create a memorable song that does not sound like other bands of the same popular genre.

The Black Fever’s Revisionist is a comfortable collection of songs but nobody ever said that comfort was a bad thing. Easy to listen to, high-energy songs, The Black Fever is worth checking out.
