It’s been 20 years since Millencolin released their first demo tape Goofy. These days when they’re not touring the world, Millencolin is creating classic punk songs for a new generation and are living reminder that punk isn’t dead; it’s just hibernating.
On June 1, Millencolin released The Melancholy Connection. Not only does the album include 12 b-sides and two new releases, it also comes with a 90 minute bonus DVD, A Pennybridge Production with never before seen footage from the band.
Millencolin hasn’t lost their attitude since their 2008 album Machine 15, which included the classics Detox and Route One. Their latest record electrifies the punk scene; Millencolin’s crisp hardcore sound is loud and clear in Track 3, Absolute Zero. New fans will be running to the record store to find out what this band is really all about once they listen the poetic Carry You. “I’m going to follow you down into the sea, climbing the mountains, you took the best of me. I’m going to carry you high, don’t ask me why, saving our friendship ’cause I don’t want to see it die.”
E20-Norr gives a cultural twist on Millencolin’s new record. The song is sang in Swedish and in relation to the European highway E20, the band talks about something that is easier said then done; doing what is best for you. “When should I love my life for me? Doing the things I believe in, when should I dare to be myself, and catch them dreams I want to reach it’s true. I have to start believing in myself.”
Ratboy’s Masterplan takes you back to the sound of the gritty 1990s. Unlike a few bands who have released new punk records over the last few years, Millencolin doesn’t fall into the pop-rock section.
Dinner Dog and Out of Nowhere are timeless punk rock songs that show Millencolin’s roots haven’t been forgotten over time and that there is no stopping for this band in the next few years.
Overall, The Melancholy Connection rocks from beginning to end. For a band who has surpassed decades of punk rock, fans are all waiting for the comeback tour.
