September European tour with Canvas. (Photo: Caitlin Molton/Aesthetic Magazine)
Last month I set out on my first ever European tour with Canvas. It was my first time seeing this part of Europe, so I was definitely pretty excited about it. I first met the guys in Canvas about two years ago when I was just starting out with music photography and they’ve always been supportive of my photos, so we finally got the chance to tour together.
The tour was 12 shows in 12 days.
Band Members:
Jack – Bass
Dan – guitar
Chris – guitar
Ricky – vocals
Jon – drums

Day one of the tour was mostly spent travelling. A four hour drive turned into a six hour drive because of traffic and we ended up getting to the venue later than expected, but the guys were still stoked to play a show.

Cologne was probably one of my favourite stops on the tour. It’s such a beautiful city. We had enough time before the show so a few of us decided to go check out the Kolner Dom (Cologne Cathedral). I had seen plenty of photos of this cathedral but nothing prepared me for when i saw it. I was in absolute awe and can definitely say that it’s the greatest piece of architecture that I’ve ever seen.

We had a beautiful drive through some French alps on the way to Italy. It rained pretty much the whole way but i didn’t mind. The show’s crowd was the best I had seen so far on the tour. Italians seem to be super enthusiastic about music, which was cool to see.

18.9.15 | Bocciodromo, Vicenza, Italy

This was one of the weirder venues, which was right in the middle of a suburban part of Vicenza. The venue had a full boxing ring and a pizza oven outside? I ordered a pepperoni pizza but received a peppers-only pizza… my fault really. Italy is weird. I love it.

Spent the magority of the day stuck in the van. But once we got to Vienna we saw some beautiful architecture. The promoter of this show was a good friend of the band so they spent some time catching up.

20.9.15 | Kawiarnia, Krakow, Poland

The venue was surrounded by a couple of derelict buildings which we made sure to make the most of by shooting some photos of the band’s new merch. The venue’s lighting consisted of one blue, red, and green light which sucked on my part, but the crowd was great.

21.9.10 | Durer Kurt, Budapest, Hungary

We had to drive through Slovakia to get to Hungary, which took way longer than expected because Slovakia doesn’t have any motorways, apparently. After load-in we had some time to spare. Tom found that the Hero’s Square was only a mile down the road from the venue so we gathered some of the others and went to check it out.
