The Technicolors.
If you’re anything like us and never quite got over Is This It by the Strokes and have had the new Spoon record on repeat, you’re going to fall head over heels for The Technicolors.
Inspired by garage rock and mid 90’s Brit-pop, The Technicolors aesthetic is the perfect soundtrack for summer.
Their debut album, Metaphysical, drops on July 7th, and you can stream their brand new track “Congratulations, You’re A Doll” here. To celebrate we asked them to curate a fresh summer-ready playlist for you to enjoy. Check it out below!
1. The Walkmen – “The Rat” – ‘Cause The Walkmen rule and it’s one of my favorite tunes to air drum to. Also helps me get my aggression out when the the arizona sun has been beating down your existence all day.
2. Wild Nothing – “Summer Holiday” – Have you ever effortlessly swam through a thinly shaped cumulous clouds? This song will aid in giving you wings and help get you there.
3. Pavement – “Summer Babe” – Take a trip to your favorite 90’s summer and enjoy the feelings of what college might have been like. Also some fantastic geetar solos that aimlessly go on forever and you’re better off for it.
4. Phoenix – “Everything is Everything” – Quintessential Phoenix perfection. I’m legally and spiritually obligated to play them all summer long and this song always does the trick. Listen with cocktail in a tall glass (drink umbrella encouraged).
5. Alphabeat – “Fascination” – Heard this song in the summer of 09′ and it will hold up forever. Potentially the most toe tapping ditty in all the land. A must for me during the Phoenix heat to get my heart bumping.
6. TV on The Radio – “Wolf Like Me” – This song is canned heat. Not much more needed to be said there.
7. LCD Soundsystem – “All My Friends” – Wouldn’t be a summer playlist without LCD Soundsystem. This song in particular encapsulates every ounce of New York summer with the best and worst humans. It’s also long so if you’re running out of ideas on a playlist, throw this sucker on and you’ll be good to go for a bit. That, or just keep jamming stairway to heaven.
8. Beck – “Think I’m In Love”- In an ode to every single time this happens to me during summer, leave it to Beck to say all your brain feelings for you.
9. Can – “Vitamin C” – It’s hot swampy messed up summer night and you’ve lost all the feelings in your bones. Let this song drift you off into the galaxies and try to figure out what country singer Michael Karoli is from.
10. Future Islands – “A Dream of You & Me” – Outside of the fact that it’s hard not to picture dance crooning the entire time in my head, this one’s a tune that the kids these days call a real “bop”
