Exclusive: Stream Skydiggers’ New Curated “Two Versions of the Same Tune” Spotify Playlist

To celebrate the release of their new track “Debris”, Toronto-based roots rock band Skydiggers curated a brand new “Two Versions of the Same Tune” Spotify playlist. Stream it below.

“Debris”

Original recording: The Faces
Recorded in 1971. Written by Ronnie Lane about his Dad.

Cover: Skydiggers in 2023 on their Hide Your Light release

“I Can’t Stop Loving You”

Original recording: Don Gibson in 1957. Written the same week as his hit ‘Oh Lonesome Me’.

Cover: Ray Charles released in 1962 on his record Modern Sounds of Country and Western.

You Never Can Tell (C’est La Vie)”

Original recording by Chuck Berry released in 1964 and written while he was in prison a few years earlier.

Cover: Emmylou Harris released in 1977. Recorded with a Cajun feel, it featured Ricky Skaggs on fiddle and harmony vocal.

“Cold Cold Heart”

Original recording Hank Williams released in 1951.

Cover: Tony Bennett also released his version in 1951. Bennett had a nice number 1 hit with his interpretation of the song. Hank Williams allegedly called him up and asked him ‘what did you do to my song…’

“Blue Bayou”

Original recording: Roy Orbison released in 1963 written by Orbison and Joe Melson

Cover: Linda Ronstadt released Blue Bayou in 1977 and it became a worldwide hit for her.
