Exclusive: Stream Roslyn Witter’s New Curated Road Trip Spotify Playlist

By: Staff –

To celebrate the release of her new single “Letting Her Go”, Canadian country music artist Roslyn Witter curated a brand new Spotify playlist that is perfect for your next road trip.

“I am writing this from the beautiful coast of PEI! I am on my honeymoon right now (1.5 years later, thanks Covid). We are doing a two week road trip across Eastern Canada. We are almost halfway through our trip, five provinces in, and have driven just over 3,000kms. This drive has been absolutely beautiful, so I thought it would only be fitting to create a “Road Trip” playlist combining some of my favourite road trip songs from the past and present,” said Witter.

Nickel Creek – “Destination”

This song… Or the entire A Dotted Line album. When I graduated from high school, I went out on the road with my dad for a bit. He introduced me to Nickel Creek on this road trip, and we listened to the A Dotted Line album on repeat. Now, it has become my go to road trippin’ soundtrack. Nickel Creek inspired me to pick up the mandolin… And very quickly put it down, lol. They make it sound so effortless, but it is NOT an easy instrument to play. If you’re looking to witness some very impressive musicianship, watch Nickel Creek’s episode of “Tiny Desk Concerts” on YouTube, and prepare to be blown away. “Destination” just sounds like driving down backroads with the windows open.

The Chicks – “Lil’ Jack Slade”

Who doesn’t love a good instrumental track? This one is a toe tapper, for sure. I was lucky enough to attend The Chicks’ concert in Toronto, and they do an “unplugged” segment of the show. All of the musicians come to the foot of the stage and play “campfire” style. When they played this song my jaw literally dropped. It has always been one of my favourites of theirs, but hearing it being played the way it was really intended to be enjoyed was SUPER cool.

Ed Sheeran – “Hills of Aberfeldy”

I’ve never road tripped through Scotland before, but I’m driving through the east coast of Canada right now, and you could fool me into believing I’m driving through Aberfeldy. The lush green rolling hills and misty skies I’m looking at really pair well with the Celtic sounds of this song. I love when artists blend traditional music with modern pop music, and Ed does this so well. I have been singing this catchy song in my head all week. It is definitely going to become a road trip staple song for me.

Sheryl Crow – “Love Is Free”

You know how some songs just sound like summer? This is one of those songs for me. Growing up, we had a lot of pool parties in my parents’ backyard. They must have had this song on a “summer” playlist, because every time I hear it I’m transported to their pool, surrounded by good friends. You can’t help but smile when you listen to this song, which makes it perfect for a road trip. Sheryl’s entire Wildflower album is one of my favourite albums of all time, and it is also great Road tripping music!

Keith Urban – “Somebody Like You”

When I found out I had won a contest to sing with Keith Urban, I called my best friend right away. She was attending university at the time, but dropped everything and bought a ticket to come watch me perform. It was a beautiful sunny day when I drove out to pick her up, and my excitement was at an all time high. I blasted Keith Urban the whole way there, and when this song came on I remember tearing up. I cruised the whole way with the windows down, and will never forget this moment. This is SUCH a feel good, summer song.

Simon and Garfunkel – “Cecilia”

Growing up in a musical family, any time there was a campfire there was always a singalong. I know I’m straying away from the “road trip” theme right now, but I think road trips and campfires go hand in hand. This is a song that was, and still is, always requested at our family campfires, and everybody always sings along. This song makes me so happy.

Tori Kelly – “Colors Of The Wind”

My uncle has a cottage in Algonquin Park, which is a really beautiful provincial park in Ontario. It is about a four hour drive from where we live, and we try to go in October every year to enjoy the fall colours. This one started as a joke: we pulled onto the cottage road and my husband played this version of “Colors Of The Wind”. It ended up being a pretty magical moment, so it has become a tradition of ours every time we arrive at the cottage.

Kacey Musgraves – “My House”

I bought a 1994 Coleman pop-up trailer and played this song on repeat while I refinished it. I love the message of this song: It’s not about the destination, but who you’re sharing the drive with. Kacey’s voice is so easy to listen to, I could never get tired of it. Add this one to your next road trip playlist!!

John Mayer – “Wildfire”

This one is a bit ironic. We planned this honeymoon road trip we are on right now months ago, but almost didn’t go on it because of the wildfires along the East Coast. Thankfully, it has rained here a lot over the last few weeks, so the travel bans were lifted just before we left. My husband and I always listen to John Mayer on our road trips, but have been listening to this one on repeat this road trip. I’m sure that in future years when I hear this song I will be reminded of this adventure we’re on.

Harry Styles – “Fine Line”

Arrive at your final destination to this song. And play it LOUD. It brings tears to my husband’s eyes every time it comes on, and if I was a crier, I’m sure it would do the same to me, lol. The harmonies and layered vocals are so, so beautiful.
