Powerhouse R&B/Soul vocalist, Gary Beals, is back with his new video for “Self Revolution”. Watch it exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.
Directed by Brian Gregory, the “Self Revolution” video communicates the modern-day struggle, showcasing what it is like to want more than your environment and surroundings can provide. The video was filmed in New York City and follows the storyline of a young man in the streets of Queens struggling with mediocrity, and a young woman roaming the streets of Harlem at night struggling with addiction. They each take an introspective look at their realities and make the decision that they want better for themselves as Gary narrates their experiences from afar.
“I wanted to provide a music video that offers viewers an authentic look into the human experience, one that addresses the struggles and challenges many people face while harbouring a deep desire for improved living,” said Beals. “The intent is to spark reflection and provide inspiration, sharing a narrative that’s not only relatable but also instills hope that, by making essential changes in our individual lives, we can work towards improving our situations”.
In addition to the music video release, Beals will also release his new album, The Melody Within, on the same date (October 27th). The new album is a musical journey that unfolds across two sides, much like a story that reveals new layers with each turn.
Two decades ago, Beals embarked on his musical journey when he, a small-town kid from Nova Scotia (now calling Toronto home), made a remarkable entrance onto the national stage as a part of Canada’s inaugural season of Canadian Idol. This September marked the 20th anniversary of the finale where Beals was crowned as the “runner up” on the show. The experience ignited a transformative period of self-reflection and discovery that propelled Beals toward personal growth, shaping his life and musical career in lasting ways.
Fast forward through three albums and twenty years, Beals’ work and talent have made a remarkable impact and received widespread critical acclaim. Among his accomplishments are debuting in the top 10 of the Canadian sales chart, being nominated for a JUNO Award for “Best R&B/Soul Recording,” winning an East Coast Music Award and seven African Nova Scotia Music Awards, as well as scoring nominations for an Urban Music Award and a Canadian Radio Music Award. These accomplishments led to his home province’s Premier officially designating November 22nd as Gary Beals Day in acknowledgment of his achievements.
Gary Beals will be celebrating the release of his new album with an event at The Great Hall in Toronto, ON, on November 1st. The event will include a live DJ and live show by Gary, backed by a full band. The new album artwork collection will also be revealed, featuring the cover art for each song.
