Exclusive: Stream CON THE ARTIST’s New Curated “On My Pods” Spotify Playlist

By: Staff –

To celebrate the release of CON THE ARTIST’s new single “Life of the Party”, the South African/Canadian multidisciplinary artist curated a brand new “On My Pods” Spotify playlist. Check it out below!

South African/Canadian multidisciplinary artist CON THE ARTIST bleeds creativity into anything he touches. From scoring films and producing records, to sound design, video direction and recently working with a 34 piece orchestra in Greece, CON has his hands in every aspect of his art.

“As a younger person, my favorite artists were like superheroes to me, helping me find a sense of identity through their music. I want my music to provide a sense of ‘home’ or comfort for others who can relate to my lyrics or sound. I hope to never stop growing and evolving musically.”

With a bold approach and an avant garde vision, these infectious bops are ready to set off into the stratosphere. The latest of which is “Life Of The Party,” a cheeky laid-back tune about dating somebody you like… but other people don’t see them in the same light. “All your friends say that your partner is too this or too that… But no one knows them the way that you do when you are alone and in your own space,” CON explains. “They may be ‘boring’ to everyone else, but to you, they are the life of the party.”

Hyphen – “3 Pound Pints”

I used to live in London, UK and this song perfectly encapsulated the feeling of being stuck on a tube at 8am surrounded by sweaty smelly people while you’re on your way to your minimum wage job. If I had this song in my ears back then, I think I would have been a lot more sane.

The Dare – “Girls”

Have you ever heard more fun lyrics? It feels like James Murphy’s (LCD soundsystem) younger brother throwing a party in his parent’s basement.

Gorillaz – “DARE

Do I really need to explain myself on this one?

mylane! – “Stereo Love”

I’m in love with the 4 on the floor side chaining literally everything else in the mix. This is the perfect late night drive song with your partner or mates. It’s so raw and gritty and just goes to show that you don’t need a big pop production to create something that creates a vibe and translates. I’m also super into the halftime drop at 1:47

Labrinth – “Like A Movie”

Ok this one is actually kinda brilliant. Lab sets up this electronic rhythmic staccato world where every note is so rigid and constricting. We feel as if we have to move to the beat in very sharp movements and we’re almost trapped in this groove. Then at 1:26 he frees us for 8 bars of pure swing bliss. I love the contradicting rhythm in this one.

BENEE – “Green Honda”

I’m in love with this production and everything BENEE has been doing lately. This song makes me want to buy a green honda and blow bubble gum in my mouth. I might consider dying my hair and getting pigtails too.

The Velvet Underground – “Sunday Morning”

RIP Lou and his soft intimate vocals.

Jean Dawson – “PORN ACTING*”

This song is everything I want in a track. It reminds me of the garage punk music I grew up listening to while still staying modern and current. Fun fact about me: If you give me a song with driving acoustic and a fat beat behind it, I’m sold.

Portraits Of Tracy – “The Party”

This may or may not be my favorite song of 2023. I remember first hearing it while spending a few months in Toronto and it is the anthem to my cold winter day commutes.

Ludwig Goransson – “Can You Hear The Music”

I love film scores just as much as I love Alt & Pop music. I saw Oppenheimer four times in the theatre, and it was partly because the music was so captivating in that whole score. I love this piece especially because it was a good lesson on blending strings with synthesizers.

Jungle – “Us Against the World”

I’ve been a fan of Jungle since day one, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they kept things interesting by changing direction sound wise on this whole album. The whole album feels like it was made to dance to.

slowthai & Mura Masa – “Doorman”

I love this one because I heard it once months ago, and it has been stuck in my head ever since. I didn’t know who it was until I recently rediscovered it. I have to give it props for being engraved in my brain despite only hearing it once… months ago.

Dominic Fike – “Think Fast (feat. Weezer)”

Dom dropped my fav album of 2023. After many listens to the album, this was my stand out fav. Musically, & lyrically. It’s a fantastic song about embracing the life you came from, despite its hardships.

Aziya – “Atomic”

I’ve got my creative eye on Aziya. She is dropping banger after banger and this was the first one that caught my attention. I love “The Cure” vibes to this track, done in such an Alt way. That’s like two of my fav things… The Cure & Alt music.

Johnny Yukon – “Gloria!”

What a groove. This is my most recent find shared by a friend. The raw synths and infectious groove have got me good.

Omar Apollo – “Ice Slippin”

Last but not least, one of my all time favs: Omar Apollo. This guy just drops banger after banger. He was my most listened to artist in 2022, and of course with this being his big 2023 release I’m still a huge fan. This track sort of reminds me of Radiohead’s “Let Down” with a big hip hop beat to back it up. I’m a huge Radiohead fan and this track made me feel nostalgic, while still completely doing it’s own thing. I doubt that Omar used Radiohead as inspiration for this one, but that’s the beauty of music… sometimes chords or progressions can remind you of a former life while bringing new energy to your current one.
