To celebrate the release of Kellie Loder’s new single “When It Comes to You”, the multi-genre Canadiana artist curated a brand new “Road Trip With Pals” Spotify playlist featuring songs that are perfect for your next adventure with your besties!
This is a playlist featuring music from some of my closest friends and newest friends who also have careers in music. I’m happy to share this collection of my favorite songs from them. It’ll inspire your next road trip, hike, or shower.
Leif Vollebeck – “Tallahassee”
I first heard this song when I was hiking the east coast trail near Tors Cove, NL a few years ago. I remember the feeling it gave me being other worldly. I felt transported, every sense I owned became that much more sensitive. I felt everything all at once. To my surprise, we recently shared a bill at the same festival in Elora, Ontario (Riverfest). We got to meet, I told him I loved his music, and we connected once we were back in our homes. Life is full of surprises.
M.T. Walker – “Spinning”
This is the song I play in my car for friends right after saying “I’ve got the song for you”. It’s just a song that never gets old to me. A happy pick-me up. I may or may not try to get on stage with Mike to sing this song every time I see him do it live. The harmonies call to me.
Rachel Cousins – “Man of Stone”
Known most for her song “Let Go”, I think the songwriting on this one is severely overlooked. Play this song at any time and it’ll hit different every time.
Dylan Menzie – “Kenya”
Let’s kick it up again. The first time I heard this song was the first time I heard Dylan Menzie. I dare you not to dream when this song is coming through the speakers. It’s near impossible.
Joey Langlois – “Love Is A Train”
Presently known as Jacky Levare (bangers for days), this song was released under an old name but every time I listen to it I feel something new. I hope he likes that I pulled one of his older tunes. Side note: We wrote my tune “So High” together.
Tim Baker – “Year of the Dog”
Me and my dog dance to this song in my kitchen, not because it has the word dog in it, but because we love it deeply, and we love each other deeply, and we love Tim, deeply.
Noah Malcolm – “Feel The Same”
You may have seen Noah playing keys for me in my band, but what a lot of people don’t know is that Noah Malcolm rules his own castle. Incredible musician, incredible songwriter, incredible person. The whole package. This is his latest single and definitely not his last. Keep your ears open for this heartstopper.
Fortunate Ones – “Before You”
You better be holding hands with someone for this, even if it’s your dog. The sunset finds you and you remember just how grateful you are. This is obviously the soundtrack playing. The walk-down harmonies on the word “you” are what takes the cake for me.
Joel Plaskett – “Hey Moon (Campfire Song)”
When I was touring with Joel, we would sing this together close to the end of each night. He made me feel like I was his equal and that feeling won’t ever fade as long as this song is around. A true musical trailblazer of our generation, Joel Plaskett. There’s only one.
Mallory Johnson – “Surprise Party”
The lyrics to this song reads like a cheeky poem that could make you cry without the music behind it. Mallory has a way of taking everyday things and making them sound profound without being too on the nose. She’s a gift as is this song.
