Jeremie Albino has announced his fourth studio album Our Time in the Sun and shares the fun ruckus of a single, “Rolling Down the 405”. Working with producer Dan Auerbach and a host of Nashville’s finest musicians including Pat McLaughlin (Don Williams, John Prine, Johnny Cash), Sam Bacco (Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris) and Tommy Brenneck (Amy Winehouse, Eric Clapton), Our Time in the Sun is set for release on November 1st via Good People Record Co. (CA) and Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound (ROW).
When Albino was a teenager, he started busking around Toronto. That experience set him on his path, and it showed him how much joy can be found in the simple act of connecting with a listener. As much as he loves performing and winning over listeners, Albino by his own admission has never felt that same connection to songwriting, but he made a breakthrough working alongside Auerbach on Our Time in the Sun.
“Something clicked right away,” says Albino, “and we ended up writing 4 or 5 songs a day. Before that, it would take me half a year to write 4 or 5 songs.”“Rolling Down The 405” was the first song tracked with a band that included Sam Bacco (Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash), Tommy Brenneck (Amy Winehouse, Eric Clapton), and Mike Rojas (Stevie Nicks, Sierra Ferrell). Albino describes “Rolling Down The 405” as “the most fun I’ve had making a record and it set the tone for the rest of the sessions.”
“This song just started as a fun song with guitars chugging along. I thought it would be fun to write a classic road song. 18 wheelers, rubber on the black top and wind in your hair, ready for an adventure. It came together really quickly, it felt like the song was written in a few minutes. I started strumming and singing the melody and it all stumbled together with Dan and Mackie (Pat McLaughlin) around the writing table.
Albino’s songs are grounded in the gritty storytelling of classic country music, propelled by the rhythms of old-school R&B, played with the wild abandon of early rock ’n’ roll, and sung with the deep feeling of southern soul. Thanks to his sweaty, livewire concerts, he has been steadily growing his audience from a few passersby to packed houses around Canada and the U.S. Our Time In The Sun, sounds like the culmination of what he started out on the street corners of Toronto.
