Toronto’s Budweiser Stage came alive last night (Oct. 1st) as Kings of Leon and Phantogram delivered an unforgettable night of music that left fans buzzing long after the final note. As the sun set over the waterfront, the atmosphere was electrifying, with a diverse crowd ready to experience the dynamic blend of rock and electronic sounds that both bands offered.
Phantogram kicked off the night with their signature sound, fusing lush synths and ethereal vocals that captivated the audience. With a set-list that included tracks like “Fall in Love” and “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore,” the crowd swayed and danced as lead singer Sarah Barthel provided a mesmerizing on stage presence, complemented by Josh Carter’s masterful guitar work, which created an intimate yet expansive vibe that perfectly set the tone for the evening. The duo’s chemistry was palpable, effortlessly engaging the audience while showcasing their unique sonic landscapes. The atmospheric lighting, coupled with their haunting melodies, provided an immersive experience that was both emotionally resonant and visually stunning.
As soon as Kings of Leon took the stage, they were met with roaring applause as they launched into their set with power and precision. Opening with “Ballerina Radio,” the crowd erupted into cheers, singing along with fervour. The energy was electric as they traversed through their extensive catalog, delivering fan favourites like “Sex on Fire,” and “Closer.” Caleb Followill’s soulful voice shone, embodying both raw passion and lyrical depth, while the band’s driving sound, characterized by Nathan Followill’s powerful drumming and Jared Followill’s steady bass lines, left no one standing still.
What stood out most was the sense of connection between the band and the audience. Kings of Leon displayed an effortless charm, engaging with fans through genuine banter and appreciable gratitude. With the overall mood being celebratory as this show served as the final hurrah of the 2024 Budweiser Stage season, the crowd felt extra amped up as they belted out every lyric and embraced every note. Their performance of “Beautiful War” was particularly moving, with haunting harmonies that seemed to weave a spell over the audience, fostering a collective moment of reflection and togetherness.
As the night continued, the band closed with an impressive rendition of one of their beloved hit singles “Use Somebody”, leaving fans with a lingering sense of euphoria and nostalgic warmth.
