Long standing Vancouver based indie-rockers; The New Pornographers took to the CNE band shell on Saturday night. Even though the six to eight piece ensemble hasn’t released a new album in three years, that didn’t kill the enthusiasm of long time admirers in the audience. Beginning their set with “Moves”, the moderately sized crowd was subdued, though by the third song, “The Laws Have Changed”, fans loosened up and began dancing.

The band did seem slightly disorganized with occasional long pauses between songs and with one of the three lead singers, Dan Bejar, who walked off stage whenever he wasn’t performing, only to have confusion as to when he was meant to reappear. It did make for a funny and spontaneous moment, but left an impression of this being an impromptu show.

When hits “Mass Romantic” and “Crash Years” were preformed, the crowd was delighted; some singing along, while others danced and same went for the encore where the single, “Twin Cinema” did not disappoint. At the end of their 50-minute set, most fans were let down that arguably one of their best and most popular songs; “Sing Me Spanish Techno” wasn’t performed. After a long day of rides, carnies and deep-fried anything, The New Pornographers were a delightful and nostalgic way to cap off the day at the CNE.
