Community star, Donald Glover, (aka Childish Gambino), held an impromptu listening party at Trinity Bellwoods Park yesterday evening around 5pm for his new album, Because The Internet, out December 10th via Glassnote Records, which he played on a boombox Lloyd Dobler style. Afterwards, he took questions from fans about anything from his influences on his new album, to his relationship status.
As he remained crouched, which made him invisible unless you were immediately surrounding him, the speakers bled with a less brash sound, with tracks like first single, “3005”, compared to his previous album, 2011’s Camp, on tracks like “Bonfire”. Despite that, Glover’s wide array of clever pop culture references still abound and his rapid-fire style is still heard with full-force. His sound has been polished, and has a more mature and laid-back feel to it, as if Glover feels that he doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone.
Check out the first single, “3005”, below.
