Last Friday was the 4th of July, but it didn’t mean Canadians had to be left without a party. Enter The Hoxton’s “Sold Out Fridays” with RL Grime. If you’re unfamiliar, RL Grime is a House turned Trap producer/DJ. His openers HRMXY and Harrison Bennet plaid mainly trap sets. Harrison Bennet’s set should be noted as he played mainly trap and hip hop melodies that compared RL Grime’s floor-demolishing anthems such as “Infinite Daps” and his remix of Chief Keef’s “Love Sosa”, it was like going from 0 to 11. RL Grime was fantastic. There was one point when he had the crowd when he got them to sing along to “Dum Dee Dum” (a song by Toronto’s own Keys N Krates) and kept cutting out every other word for them to scream along to. Other memorable songs included a trap remix of both “Latch” by Disclosure and “All Me” by Drake, as well as dropping hits like “Get Low” by Dillon Francis and DJ Snake. If you are a fan of rap, trap or hip hop beats and missed out on this show, definitely catch this guy the next time he’s back in Toronto.
