Festival Preview: 5 Must-See Bands at Download Festival 2015

By: Daniel Gerichter (@ZenDonut) –

Download Festival 2015

In just 12 years, Download Festival has become one of the world’s definitive metal festivals. The reason is simple: a brilliant balance of internationally successful headliners like KISS, Muse and Motley Crue alongside wall-of-death all-stars like Lamb of God and Lacuna Coil – with a supporting cast full of tomorrow’s headliners. Like any festival, you’re going to have to make the heartbreaking decision to catch one band’s set over another’s. But never fear – we’re here to help. No matter what you do, make sure your Download weekend includes these 5 artists.

Antemasque
_____________________________________________________________________________________

In case you missed out on a chance to see At The Drive-in or Mars Volta live, Antemasque is the latest incarnation for members Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Oh, and this time Flea’s along for the ride (on the album and select dates). Antemasque blends Mars Volta’s endless imagination with At-the-Drive-in’s relentless energy, so don’t miss it.

Andrew W.K.

In a three-day lineup of bands screaming about dystopian nightmares, the joy of being a sociopath or torturing Jesus Christ to death, you might need a reprieve. Enter Andrew WK. Andrew W.K.’s set is the jolt of positivity and affirmation we all need in our lives. It’s the perfect combination of AC/DC and Tony Robbins.

Dragonforce

Everything about the UK’s Dragonforce is absurd. Their lyrics, their pacing, their guitar solos and their energy are all absolutely bonkers. With lyrics like “We are riding for the battlefield in force tonight / Fury of the darkest evil cry for war“ makes Dragonforce the perfect music for adrenaline junkies who also have a penchant for Dungeons & Dragons.

Corrosion of Conformity
_____________________________________________________________________________________

In 1994, Corrosion of Conformity pretty much perfected stoner metal with their fourth album, Deliverance. It was the first album with Pepper Keenan on vocals and fans of the band will also point to that lineup as the being the band’s best. Lucky for you, that incarnation is back together for the first time in 14 years, performing fan favourites from Deliverance and Wiseblood, Rumour also has it that this lineup as at work on a brand new album, some of which could make its debut at Download.

Thunder
_____________________________________________________________________________________

If you’re a UK metal fan, you’re probably familiar with Thunder. For some unfortunate reason, their long-standing reputation for being one of Britain’s best live metal acts never left home. Which is too bad because Thunder are as bombastic as they are bluesy, with a big arena sound and ultra catchy tunes. Over the years, the band split up and reunited a great many times, but this time, they come equipped with cuts from Wonder Days, (their first new material in 7 years) on top of the songs that made them UK legends to begin with.
