I had been waiting a long while to see King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard and damn, was it ever worth the wait. The band put on a phenomenal show with crisp and clear instrumentals, and trippy background visuals making it an experience most fans will never forget.

Most of the tracks on the setlist were from their past two albums. They have released nine albums and only increasingly get better while experimenting with sound, but not taking it too out of hand and keeping an attractive sound. I find that when bands experiment with their sound it can be a true hit or miss, and King Gizzard has only been hits.

The crowd’s energy was high for most of the show (how could it not be?) but when they began to play their newest “Rattlesnake”, the pit expanded and the crown took the energy to a whole other level.

One of the most exciting parts of the show was when they played “The River”. It sounded even better than it does on the album with more energy, defined vocals, and loud instrumentals. The video played in the background going along perfectly with the vibe.

This show was truly an experience – I’m not sure what could have made it more perfect. Although the band didn’t have much to say, they made up for their lack of speech in their flawless performance. Additionally, I find that the sound quality at the Danforth is not always the best but for some reason, it was perfect.

If you’re looking for a modern-day psychedelic rock experience like no other that takes you on a trip, this show is for you, so don’t miss out the next time they’re in your town.
