WWE SmackDown Live: Recap, Reaction, Results (March 6, 2018)

By: Jamie Henry

Last night’s WWE Smackdown Live from the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, starts with the Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair being introduced. The commentators discuss her title match against Ruby Riot, leader of the Riot Squad, on Sunday at Fastlane. Ruby Riot is also introduced, bringing out Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. Riot claims that the squad started two weeks after Flair became champion. Flair responds in one of her best lines ever: “I can’t just succeed in order to be successful in my family. I need to be transcendent.” When it looks like Riot and the squad are beginning to circle around Flair to attack her, her Mixed Match Challenger partner, Bobby Roode interrupts and shoos the Riot Squad away.

Roode, the United States champion, is a guest commentator for the next match – Randy Orton vs Jinder Mahal, who is introduced by Sunil Singh. Orton throws Singh onto the table, where Mahal attacks him as retribution before being thrown into Roode, who was still only commentating. Mahal pins Orton for win, even though I wish he had a match at Fastlane.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are seen backstage, Owens asks Zayn about his statement from last week where Zayn admitted he would lay down for Owens.

Nakamura is quickly interviewed by Dasha Fuentes where Rusev and Aiden English interrupt. The little segment had no purpose – which is a shame because as Nakamura is the Royal Rumble winner, he definitely deserves more than a two-minute segment.

AJ Styles is now out in the ring, talking about his chances at Fastlane on Sunday and then about John Cena. Styles says that facing Cena at Wrestlemania is not what he wants and that he’ll be fighting for his match at ‘Mania, and for Nakamura, at Fastlane, and it will be nothing short of phenomenal. Dolph Ziggler comes out, calling Styles desperate, causing Styles and Ziggler to have a quick war of words before Ziggler steps away and begins talking about Fastlane. The two continue having words until eventually, Styles suggests the match they have later on, happens now. The match goes forward, both men getting in numerous shots with forearms, kicks before the match ends in disqualification as Owens and Zayn interrupt to beat the two men up. As the groups beat up one another, Shane McMahon comes out, announces that he is making a match: Styles vs Ziggler vs Owens vs Zayn vs Baron Corbin, making this a fatal five-way preview for Fastlane. The match is great, but what’s really surprising is when Zayn hits Owens with a Helluva Kick in the corner, it makes me wonder if Zayn is going to lose on Sunday but he throws out a great promo about he was the most underlooked wrestler on the roster and that he proved that he was the best wrestler tonight.

We end the go home show before Fastlane wondering what’s going to happen with the championship, the friendship between Owens and Zayn and if they’re on a road that one cannot come back from.
