WWE SmackDown Live: Recap, Reaction, Results (April 3, 2018)

By: Jamie Henry

The final WWE Smackdown Live before Wrestlemania 34, coming to you from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, begins with Daniel Bryan introducing Shane McMahon. The two apologize to one another and how they’ve been treating each other due to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn before ‘hugging it out’. Bryan states that “we are going to get our payback for what they’ve done to me, what they’ve done to Shane…” before McMahon adds on that he is thankful those two are reinstated so he can ‘get rid of those cancers’, which admittedly, is a statement I found myself cringing at.

Charlotte Flair vs Natalya is next with the two women’s in-ring chemistry on full display. Natalya shows off her Powerslams as Flair shows off her Rollups and Moonsaults before eventually Carmella comes into the match, everyone wondering if she will cash in. Before she can hand the referee her Money in the Bank Briefcase though, Flair kicks it away and attacks Carmella. Natalya attempts to pin Flair by the distraction, but Flair manages to counter it into a Figure 8, with Natalya tapping out. Asuka comes out saying, “At Wrestlemania, the queen will bow down to the empress because no one is ready—” before Flair pulls the microphone ready, going “Yep, I’m ready, but the question is, are you ready?”

Bobby Roode comes out to join on commentary as Rusev vs Jinder Mahal go head-to-head. As the match begins, Mahal gets to Rusev early on, despite Rusev attempting an Accolade as Randy Orton watches backstage and Roode discusses what he’s planning for their fatal four-way on Sunday. Rusev manages to win after a Machka Kick, as Orton manages to come out of nowhere and use an RKO on Rusev and Aiden English.

The main event is Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles vs Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin.  Before the match begins though, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens appear suddenly, saying “this is still the Sami and Kevin show and Sunday night will still be the Sami and Kevin show.” Zayn and Owens continue to verbally attack Bryan and McMahon before their mics are cut, and they walk back through the audience before McMahon and Bryan come out, saying this is the very last time they’ll be seen on Smackdown Live.

The match finally begins and within moments, Gable and Benjamin are kicking down Nakamura and Styles. Gable and Benjamin are in command early on, however Styles manages a Neckbreaker before he goes to Nakamura, staring at the King of Strong Style before pinning Gable with a Phenomenal Forearm.

Benjamin attacks Nakamura while Styles celebrates and once Nakamura dispatches of Benjamin, Styles fakes a Phenomenal Forearm towards Nakamura, teasing him from the previous week where Nakamura had done something similar to Styles, making something within their feud actually interesting other than being the feud ‘every fan wants to see’.
