Belleville, ON-based multi-instrumentalist/producer, Pekoe Cat is back with his new single “Jungle Cop”, which you can stream exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.
“”Jungle Cop” is pure nostalgia,” says Pekoe Cat. “I have a very vague memory of toddler me playing some game on NES where a guy with a motorcycle helmet goes around shooting up the city. That’s what inspired the song. I have no idea how accurate those memories are or if that game even exists. And I think I should be a little concerned if that’s the kind of thing I consider to me a fond memory. Either way, it’s the closest I’ve ever come to achieving the sound I was going for.”
The track is a unique blend of electronic influences with eclectic vocal patterns and a thumping bass line. Starting off with sirens the song quickly transports you to a dreamt of version of the future, as prophesied by someone in the 1980s. It’s almost like you’re hearing a long lost theme song to a retro technicolour kids television show, complete with Neon Indian indebted synths, frantic Max Tunda like vocal melodies, and the childlike wonder of early Spooky Rueben. There’s a relentless earworm energy that makes the track infectious from start to finish.
