Exclusive Premiere: Stream The Strangemakers’ New Album “Off The Floor”

By: Staff –

Toronto folk-rock band, The Strangemakers, are back with their latest album, Off the Floor, which you can stream exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.

Off the Floor features five live off the floor performances and the already released two lead singles, “Wait on Me” and “Are You Ready?”, produced by JUNO-award winning artists Dave Ritter (The Strumbellas) and John Dinsmore (NQ Arbuckle, Donovan Woods).

“The first two singles were recorded meticulously over the course of 3 days,” says vocalist Alex McCulloch. “Then for the rest of the songs we went back for one day and recorded them all live off the floor. The result is an album that shows both who we are as a studio band and as a live act, that has elements that are polished and elements of rawness and imperfections. This album captures our songwriting and the sound of our band in the past year of our musical career.”

The Strangemakers are a Toronto folk-rock band led by husband-and-wife team Alex McCulloch and Tom Perry. In the album Off the Floor, The Strangemakers explore powerful emotions and rootsy musical influences, delivering folksy contemplations about loneliness in a big city, foot-stomping reflections on the fleeting present, and candid portraits of heartbreak and home. The two lead singles for their album Off the Floor were well received, especially the “stunning mid-tempo confessional” Wait on Me (B-Sides & Badlands). Similarly, Lefuture wave said “You cannot deny that Wait on Me is a Beautiful Piece of Music.”

The Strangemakers’ songs in Off the Floor feature powerful female vocals and unaffected, vulnerable songwriting. Indeed, at a TEDx event in Toronto, songwriter Alex McCulloch shared her personal struggles with family alcoholism and how she uses her music to lessen societal stigma surrounding addiction and mental illness. McCulloch and Perry’s songwriting ability was recognized in 2016 when their song Silver Spoon was  selected as a semifinalist in the International Songwriting Awards. The album Off the Floor follows that strong songwriting with songs that open up about love and loss, debilitating mental health challenges and triumphant moments of self-discovery.
