Exclusive Premiere: Stream Gift of Tongues’ New Single “The Art of Loneliness”

Emerging artist Gift of Tongues is back with his new single “The Art of Loneliness”, which you can stream exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below. 

“The Art Of Loneliness” is a dance-pop song which sounds triumphant, but upon closer listen feels tragic,” said frontman David E. Johnston. “The lyrics here are the closest I get to a private monologue with me trying to convince myself that loneliness isn’t such a painful situation. I’m trying to trick myself into thinking being alone isn’t so bad and the artful way I do it.”

Gift of Tongues, is an Electro-Folk EDM band who has just released their new single, “Art of Loneliness”. The track sounds triumphant, but, upon closer listen, feels tragic. It’s a dance-pop smash powered by springy beats and lathered in atmospheric synths and infectious melodies. The lyrics here are the closest one gets to a private monologue with Johnston trying to convince himself loneliness isn’t such a painful situation. “I’m attempting to trick myself into thinking being alone isn’t so bad,” he says with a laugh.

Johnston is hosting a dance party like no other. His songs fizz with sugary synth-pop hooks and undeniable grooves. These invigorating electro-pop songs move your body, and, if you listen closely, they will stir your soul.

Currently based in Brooklyn, New York, Gift of Tongues aims to create work “between performance, motion, graphics, & original music” and is currently preparing for the release of their second album “The Perfect Son”. Johnston, known for using masks and costumes to hide his identity when performing, presents “The Perfect Son” as a 15-song collection of folk-tronica synth-pop and utilises music to face the darkness of a lonely childhood.

“All the stories and anecdotes shared on the album came from this kid, the perfect son. At a young age, I felt and acted different from other boys- I felt “wrong, and I think that was because I was gay…I think the same of this difference led me to be the silent ‘perfect son’ who didn’t want any focus on himself”, Johnston stated when explaining the inspiration for his upcoming album.

Being the first single off his sophomore album, “Art of Loneliness” is an amazing prelude to Gift of Tongue’s upcoming music , and we can’t wait to see more from this energetic-upbeat artist!
