San Francisco-based electronic artist Nathan Germick is back with a new video for “For The Money”, which you can watch exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.
The song serves as a critical commentary on the negative impacts of continuous exposure to new technology. The stark sounds and hollow vocals highlight the emotional emptiness of a financially motivated goal system. The video was made by Nathan’s brother, Ryan Germick, and features a collage of clips from the dawn of the digital age. The dubious lyrics atop earnest imagery creates a great contrast.
“For The Money” channels Germick’s musical inspirations Peter Gabriel, and Björk—“The primary connection is the creative use of technology to amplify human emotion,” said Germick. “These artists are able to maintain intimacy and vulnerability in their music while simultaneously being very sonically-rich.” He wrote, produced, and recorded every part of the song himself while in isolation, acting in kind with his DIY ideals.
