Emerging New Jersey-based indie-punk band The Spins are back with their new single “Acid Rain”, which you can stream exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.
On the track, the band shares, “This is a song about longing to escape society’s rat race and enjoy the fundamental things in life that really matter like personal relationships and the beauty of nature. Touches on the overstep of corporate intrusion into human nature and its impact on the human soul and the environment. Inspired by ‘Into the Wild.'”
Founded in August of 2016 by Nick Coombs (vocals/rhythm guitar), Freddy Smith (drums), and Luke Talmadge(bass), the band quickly found their full sound and line up with the addition of Jimmy Barr (lead guitar) shortly after. They began building a large local fan base right away with the release of several Soundcloud demos, followed by the release of their debut EP, Tank’d. This was supported by their first tour, covering a large portion of the northern east coast. They released their 2nd EP, 4 Day Stay, in 2019 after a long period of live performances focused on building their following since the release of Tank’d.
After original founding member Luke Talmadge moved to Virginia in November 2018, Jordan Stackhouse briefly filled the role until the band added Phil Dunphy as their new permanent bassist. They immediately hit the road with Phil in the summer of 2019 in support of 4 Day Stay on a two-week tour of the east coast from Vermont down to Georgia. During this tour, they began the writing process for their debut LP. Over the course of the next year, the band began an intensive writing process to create their first official LP.
The addition of Phil to the band inspired new elements in their writing not seen on their previous releases. They focused on refining their songwriting schools in order to craft a full-length record that showed their diverse influences and inspirations. They tracked the record at Sound Acres Studios with Gary Cioni over the span of a three-week stay and released the first single from the record, “Fade Away”, in January of 2021 to great reception. They plan to release several more singles over the course of the first half of 2021 until the release of the full album in June.
