Exclusive Premiere: Stream Caylie Staples’ New Single “I’ve Never Met You”

By: Staff –

Emerging singer-songwriter Caylie Staples is back with her new single “I’ve Never Met You”, which you can stream exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.

“I’ve Never Met You is a romantic song to a lover who is about to make an entrance into your life,” said Staples. “Full of fun and flirty lyrics meeting a swaying beat, the song is about luck and fate; a sense of inner knowing about a lover you have not yet met. Maybe someone that you have caught a glimpse of, or have noticed from afar. It’s about calling that next lover to you, with a feeling that you already know them before having met them.”

Recorded in nature at Port William Sound studios, swirling synths, drum machine, bass, rhodes and shaker make up this blissful track. “I’ve Never Met You” is a light, sultry, celestial pop song that explores luck, chance, fate, destiny, intuition, love and connection.

Staples is a singer, songwriter, producer and performer with a passion for voice and the multiple layers of meaning that can be crafted into each song. She writes multi-dimensional electronica infused with vast, deep, dream-like imagery and emotional clarity. Caylie’s recent single Borderline explores moving beyond duality and division into a place of unity and new possibility. Her upcoming solo album titled Future Memory will be released March 2022 with a supporting tour planned to follow in summer 2022 pending pandemic restrictions and status of live music.

Based in Toronto, Staples has a B.F.A. Honours in Music from York University and has studied intensively with NYC-based vocalist Shelley Hirsch. Staples has produced and released two albums of original songs; sparse and intimate Stay Tough in 2005 and folk-experimental Receiver in 2010. Staples is one half of dream noise duo Glass Salt (Whatever’s Clever Club, Cherche Encore). She is the lead singer, lyricist, co-writer and co-producer for interstellar avant-rock band Anthems of the Void. She has a free improvising duo with cellist Matt Brubeck in which she free improvises both the music and lyrics live on stage. Staples has contributed as a singer, songwriter and/or producer on recordings from 2005-present, including co-writing tracks on Morgan Doctor’s album Strangers, released in 2020 (Aporia). Caylie is known for compelling performances in both her solo work and her varied projects. In its 21st year, Toronto’s Wavelength Music series listed Staples’ 2020 collaborative performance with Morgan Doctor as one of five of the series’ most memorable performances of all time. Staples and Morgan Doctor co-wrote a track in Doctor’s score for Ondi Timoner’s film Last Flight Home, premiering January 2022 in SunDance Film Festival.
