Stream Cassie Dasilva’s Introspective New Song “Middle Child”

By: Staff –

After ringing in the new year with her reluctant love song “part of the club”, Cassie Dasilva turns the dial a shade darker with follow-up single “middle child”. The song shares moodier undertones, reminiscent of it’s older sister and previous viral hit “Unsolicited Contact”.

“middle child” is a compelling self reflection exploring themes of identity and how adolescent experiences shaped her into the person she is today. “I wanted to use all of the things that people have said about me over the years that made me feel insecure or small, and take the power back by saying, ‘yeah, and so what?’,” Dasilva explains.

The poignant narrative resonates with her fans,  especially those who also grew up as a middle child in a large family, fighting their way to be heard. “It’s a complex role to be in— but it’s also one of the main reasons why I write songs and tell stories today.” The single art features a childhood photo of Dasilva and her siblings, candidly caught in a moment of defiance by the pool.

Continuing her collaboration with JUNO award-winning producer Hill Kourkoutis, Dasilva infuses “middle child” with eerie instrumentation and dynamic arrangements, creating a sonic landscape that perfectly complements the song’s reflective themes.

Diving deeper into the song’s meaning, Dasilva reveals “it’s not an overly self-confident song like it might appear on the surface. Truthfully I’m acknowledging things that have caused a lot of pain, but I think there’s a strength that comes from shining a light on your insecurities.”

With her trademark contemplative lyricism, Dasilva invites listeners to reflect on the nuances of their own experiences, blending introspection with irresistible pop sensibilities.
