The KOI Music Festival has announced the launch of a brand new music festival called KOI Fest At The Parking Lot.
Headlining the festival will be acclaimed Canadian indie rock band Sam Roberts Band. Other bands include: Tokyo Police Club, The Strumbellas, Hannah Georgas, Ria Mae, Kalle Mattson, Ivory Hours, Poor Young Things, HIGHS, and more.
Since KOI Music Festival first originated six years ago the festival circuit in Southern Ontario has become extremely competitive and crowded. Many festivals had a challenging 2015 and KOI Music Festival was no different. KOI founders, Cory and Curt Crossman have since recognized that they can no longer take on the massive undertaking alone. The Centre has presented KOI Music Festival with the opportunity to collaborate and create a new music festival with KOI Fest roots. This new creation is KOI Fest At The Parking Lot.
KOI Music Festival and Centre In The Square identify the creation and production of concerts and festivals in Kitchener-Waterloo to be a vital part of arts and culture in the area. This new partnership is a very exciting and promising way for both organizations to pursue their goal of presenting local talent and building the music scene in Kitchener-Waterloo. “The synergy between CITS and KOI works perfectly, meshing years of festival experience and a decade and a half of growing the local music scene with an organization that brings in top tier talent and culturally important productions to our region” says Curt Crossman.
Showcasing 14 local and internationally recognized bands on two separate stages on the Centre In The Square premise, KOI Fest At The Parking Lot is not just another event but rather a vehicle to revitalize the underserved young audience. The festival offers a real chance to enjoy music with great production and an emphasis on the artist. This festival is looking to provide a unique platform to grow local talent in a progressive, innovative, and organic way while also featuring award winning artists.
General Manager Rob Sonoda says, “The Parking Lot is an exciting new venture and creates new opportunities for community partnership and revenue generation that previously weren’t an option for Centre In The Square. The opportunities are endless with this new venue and we’re excited to see what the future holds.”
Festival pre-sale runs from March 2nd at 10am to March 10th at 10am, with the general on-sale beginning March 10th at 10am. Stage A tickets begin at $69.50, with “Garage VIP” tickets beginning at $125.
