Exclusive Premiere: Stream The Strangemakers’ New Single “Wait On Me”

By: Staff –

Toronto-based folk-rock band The Strangemakers are back with their new single “Wait On Me”, which you can stream exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.

The track is the first single from their forthcoming EP produced by JUNO award-winning artists Dave Ritter (The Strumbellas) and John Dinsmore (NQ Arbuckle, Donovan Woods).

“Music has always been a way to express my feelings and understand where I’m at, and this song is no exception,” said band member Alex McCulloch. “When I wrote this song I was in a really dark place – my mom had passed away in late 2016 and I was dealing with grief and depression. Tom was there to support me, and so this song is about how we navigated that journey together. How relationships can be tested by storms. Luckily, we’ve come through stronger than ever and I’m proud to share this very personal song with the world that I hope others will be able to relate to. We recorded this song in the ever-vibey Lincoln County Social Club, and I hope listeners will be able to hear the intimacy of that space as well as the intimacy of the lyrics in this final recording.”

Led by husband-and-wife team Alex McCulloch and Tom Perry, The Strangemakers explore powerful emotions and rootsy musical influences, delivering folksy contemplations about loneliness in a big city, foot-stomping reflections on the fleeting present, and candid portraits of heartbreak and home.

The Strangemakers’ songs feature powerful female vocals and unaffected, vulnerable songwriting. McCulloch and Perry’s songwriting ability was recognized in 2016 when their song Silver Spoon was  selected as a semifinalist in the International Songwriting Awards.

Opening up about love and loss, mental health challenges and about triumphant moments of self-discovery, The Strangemakers’ style of storytelling comes from personal experiences. At a TEDx event in Toronto, songwriter Alex McCulloch shared her personal struggles with family alcoholism and how she uses her music to lessen societal stigma surrounding addiction and mental illness.

The Strangemakers will be hosting a single release party at The Painted Lady on June 22 in support of the release of “Wait On Me”.
