To celebrate the release of Ava Kay’s (pronounced Ay-vah K) new single “Go”, the multi-hyphenate BIPOC creator – singer, songwriter, film composer, and producer curated a brand new “Emotive & Meditative Storytelling” Spotify playlist that features songs that Kay listens to when she “really wants dive into my feelings.” Stream it below!
The official release of this song came to be following an overwhelming response from fans discovering it through some amazing sync placements such as a major movie trailer and a Hallmark movie. It has already created over 37K Shazam’s to date and led to a strong online fanbase. With this incredible demand, Kay felt it was time to officially release the song.
Kay shares; “I wrote this song about moving on and moving forward: leaving home for the first time, chasing your dreams, leaving a town, leaving a relationship or a life behind. The lyric: “And you take a few steps ‘til you can run, hesitation now would be wrong, so just GO. You can stay here, and wait it out – or figure out tomorrow, right now, so just GO.” These lyrics are speaking directly to the doubts people have when they make these hard decisions and breaking through those doubts so they don’t hold you back.”
Coldplay – “O”
This song is the ultimate beautiful sad song. I listen to this when I truly need an emotional release of something heavy on my mind.
Nicholas Britell – “Agape”
A stunning piece of music that makes me feel hopefully and calm.
Chilly Gonzales – “Overnight”
When I want to escape, this song me feel like I’m in Paris at night in the rain.
Nicholas Britell – “Chiron’s Theme”
Another Nicholas Britell piece. This theme in particular I found interesting when he spoke about how he shift pitched the theme as the character grew. It’s simple yet powerful.
Adam Taylor – “Don’t Let Go”
This song feels like piercing heartbreak. The kind of heartbreak that never leaves your soul, the kind you never forget. It’s one of my favourite pieces of music.
Jann Arden – “Hanging by a Thread”
Another song that feels like heartbreak. It’s reflective and full of release. I often listened to this song when I was going through tough times.
Eddie Vedder – “Guaranteed”
Makes me reflect, feel like everything is going to be ok.
Kacey Musgraves – “Slow Burn”
I love the cyclical spinning of this song and the lyrics. Also another reflective song I love to listen to. I zone out to it all the time.
Frou Frou – “Let Go”
This one has been in my playlists forever. Just an overall brilliant song – best lyric “there’s beauty in the breakdown”. That is so true.
John Mayer – “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”
Just one of those amazing songs that speaks to the hard truth about breakups.
