Emerging singer-songwriter Cassandra Maze is back with a new video for her track “Something I Like”, which you can watch exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.
“You can’t have a rose without the thorns –so the saying goes,” said Maze. “Beauty is not without pain, just as anything worthwhile comes with sacrifice. But some roses aren’t worth their thorns. Something I Like is a song about rebelling against your own best interests, as a consequence of following your heart’s desire. It’s about that moment when you know what trouble you’re getting yourself into, but you do it anyway. That moment you decide to take the rose and the thorns.”
On the video, Maze said, “I’m the type of music listener who sees a movie play out in my head when I listen to a song. When I finishedrecordingSomething I Like, the imaginary film flickering in my mind’s eye was all red.Red is a powerful colour. To me, red symbolizes passion, beauty and romance, but also pain –and I think the two are very intertwined. As Greek mythology has it, Aphrodite (the goddess of love) scratches herself on a rose bush, and a speckling of her blood stains the white petals, thereby making them red.I love that metaphor, suggesting you can’t have feats of beauty without some sacrifice. It’s true of art. It’s true of love. It’s true of life.”
