This is a crystal clear close up of Chris Murphy of Sloan, in mid verse. This kind of clarity is very tricky at live shows. He’s perfectly lit and the colours and vibrancy on the fingers, face and hair bring this photo to life. Not to mention he is a Canadian rock n’ roll icon.

Epic lighting. One of my favourite effects in concert photography is a backlit subject over a dark background. Benjamin Kowalewicz’s sweaty hair, coloured tattoos and Against Me! shirt also add to the heroicness of this shot.

The trippy panel lighting and glow off of legendary grunge guitarist, Jerry Cantrell, make this one a top contender.

Robin Thicke is arguably one of the most controversial artists this year and this photo grasps exactly why. Regardless of how you feel about him, you can’t argue this is a well-taken photograph. The illuminated subjects really stand out. Artistry and relevance make this one a top concert photo this year.

Wicked power pose from a legend of the past, Nick Carter. This photo brings me back to junior school, when I bought my first ever CD, Backstreet’s Back. Great lighting and clarity on this shot too.
