It’s possible that people found out about Coachella 2001 via Friendster. While promoters skipped 2000, they came back strong in 2001 with a lineup that almost exclusively leaned on festivalgoers’ love for the nineties. Between rock acts like Weezer, Dandy Warhols and a newly reunited Janes Addiction, the festival also brought our favourite DJs from when EDM was still called ‘electronica’ (Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers). To that point, if you hear anybody bitching about how Coachella’s now dominated by EDM, hold this poster up to their faces.
